Position Overview:

The Sustainability and Social Impact Intern is responsible for executing on PMI’s core value, Create a Better World. In this role, you will work collaboratively with the corporate responsibility team to design, execute, and communicate strategies and projects related to sustainability, social impact, and related areas. You are an empathetic, curious, and committed rising professional who believes in corporate responsibility to support people and the planet.

Key Responsibilities:

Sustainability (40%)

  • Partner with Sustainability Manager to research, develop, and execute projects associated with minimizing PMI’s footprint, including product sustainability and operational sustainability
  • Conduct analysis on PMI’s environmental data including greenhouse gas inventory and lifecycle assessment and support on data documentation
  • Partner with sustainability and people teams to identify opportunities for office improvements and employee engagement activities, such as minimizing office waste
  • Support CSR team, supply chain team, and business teams to execute against long-term environmental goals

Social Impact (40%)

  • Partner with CSR Director to support charitable giving partnerships and cause marketing
  • Support the administration of employee matching donations program, including marketing, support, and reporting
  • Support People team with volunteer and other social impact events in the U.S.
  • Assist with execution and communications of social impact activities as assigned

Communications and Employee Engagement (20%)

  • Write and prepare stories on PMI CSR efforts for distribution online and through social media channels
  • Assist in customer-based reporting efforts
  • Support various PMI teams on additional CSR responsibilities, including, but not limited to social compliance, supplier diversity, and diversity, inclusion, and belonging

Proficiencies:

  • Understanding of basic CSR principles and guidelines regarding environmental sustainability and social impact
  • Analytical and strategic capabilities, ability to organize complex ideas into succinct information and dashboard reporting
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work and connect with diverse teams around the world
  • Attention to and excellence in managing details and deadlines
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt
  • An abundance of empathy, curiosity, and optimism

Education & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in progress, with preference toward business management, environmental studies, design and engineering, or related fields
  • Prior work and/or volunteering experience a plus
  • Passion for creating a better world through corporate action
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams around the world
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills to oversee and deliver complex tasks

Interaction and Environment:

  • Reports to: Global Director, Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Manager
  • Partners with: People, Brand, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Analytics teams
  • Location: Seattle
  • Duration: Full-time Summer, minimum 8 weeks
