Splunk is looking for highly motivated college students to join our Finance SpAARC(Splunk Advisory, Assurance, Risk and Compliance) team. The mission of SpAARC is to enable Splunk management to evaluate and improve the efficiency of governance, risk management, compliance and internal controls; and to improve and protect organizational value and achieve business objectives by anticipating and leading key risks.

Our team is responsible for Splunk’s various Finance and Technology Compliance audit functions, for e.g. FedRamp, PCI, ISO, HIPAA, SOX, etc.. In addition, the SpAARC function focuses on Enterprise Data Management, Finance Systems, Business Continuity planning, Enterprise Risk Management, & Internal Audit (Operational Risk).

The mission of SpAARC is to enable Splunk management to evaluate and improve the efficiency of governance, risk management, compliance and internal controls; and to improve and protect organizational value and achieve business objectives by anticipating and leading key risks.

Team Description within SpAARC

Business Continuity Management Is the operation of creating systems/processes of prevention & recovery to deal with potential threats. Splunk supports business continuity through a defined & handled BCM framework that addresses business risk, incident impact, recovery, & continuity planning.

Enterprise Risk Management The ERM program is a structured, consistent, and continuous process across the organization for identifying and assessing key enterprise-level risks, deciding on responses to and mitigation plans for addressing these risks, and reporting on the status of the mitigation plans, opportunities, and threats that affect

Enterprise Data Management SpAARC Enterprise Data Management’s (EDM) mission is to turn data into a reliable & trusted source for processes and decision-making across the business, by deploying data governance, quality, & master data services to standardize, improve, and maintain the quality of data across Splunk.

Financial Systems Financial Systems team facilitates Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) by integrating and automating business processes, thus eliminating redundancies, improving accuracy, and efficiency.

Operational Audits Operations Audit team is passionate about providing effective advisory and assurance services across Splunk’s enterprise (for example, HR, Procurement, Accounting, Legal, etc.) to improve the control environment and risk management processes across key business functions.

SOX Compliance The United States Congress passed the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in 2002 and established rules to protect the public from fraudulent or erroneous practices by corporations and other business entities. The goal of this team is to verify the financial statements of the company, and the processes involved in creating them.

Technology Compliance Technology Compliance is a function of the SpAARC team that makes valuable contributions to the organization by assessing business processes & recommending improvements. Team is responsible for tech compliance programs and maintain Splunk’s Common Control Framework

As an intern, you will work on a real project (or a few) and have an opportunity to enjoy our dynamic environment.

You will develop your understanding of Splunk’s data, financial systems, risk and compliance posture and use your cross-team collaboration skills to drive execution and success.

You will be working to support internal and external audit or business partner needs, collaborating with multi-functional teams, receive mentorship, and gaining insight into our purposeful process. Responsibilities

The duties of SpAARC include the examination, evaluation and provision of an independent assessment to the Audit Committee, management and outside parties of whether Splunk’s network of risk management, internal controls, and governance processes, as crafted and represented by management, is adequate and functioning in a manner to achieve the Company’s goals and objectives.

  • Resolve whether risks are appropriately identified and run.
  • Evaluate financial, operational and compliance controls designed to lead Splunk’s risks are operating in an efficient, effective and ethical manner.
  • Evaluate financial, managerial, and operating information is accurate, reliable and timely.
  • Supervise and evaluate whether employees’ actions are in compliance with Splunk policies, standards, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency with which Resources are acquired, used and protected.
  • Evaluate programs and plans to resolve whether end results are consistent with stated objectives.
  • Evaluate interaction with various governance groups.
  • Evaluate whether quality and continuous improvement are cultivated in Splunk’s control process.
  • Resolve regulatory or legal issues impacting Splunk are recognized and addressed appropriately.
  • Report on SpAARC’s purpose, authority, responsibility and performance relative to its annual plan.
  • Report significant risk exposures and control issues, including fraud risks, governance issues, and other matters
  • (As an EDM Intern) Provide data quality analytics support to active SpAARC audits, including
  • Assessment of data critical to operations under audit
  • Interview of operations owners to understand quality standards required or currently implemented by those operations
  • Independent profiling & analysis of critical data, using data quality tools and score carding to settle effectiveness of data controls & standards
  • Generation of reports & assessments of data quality controls, including any analysis on probably root causes of data issues and / or control gaps to provide quantification of audit findings and management action plans defined from those findings
