Summary Of Role

The Failure Analysis (FA) Engineer is responsible for providing accurate, timely and conclusive failure analysis support. The overall objective of this position is to support the improvement of the quality and reliability of GlobalFoundries’ products and related processes by supporting product development, production, and yield improvement activities. The FA Engineer will need to communicate effectively with GlobalFoundries’ stakeholders (e.g. production, yield, integration, technology development and quality) and customers and will drive the FA analysis team and process towards a high failure analysis success rate.

Your Job

  • Execute the FA process and the root cause analysis
  • Deliver excellent FA results and effectively communicate results
  • Strengthen the collaboration between the labs at all GlobalFoundries sites
  • Enhance the collaboration with the Physical Analysis Lab especially in the field of electron microscopy
  • Delegate FA to external analysis suppliers if necessary
  • Effectively support cross-functional analysis teamwork
  • Perform lab and equipment maintenance
  • Use and select FA tools/fault
  • isolation techniques to deliver conclusive results
  • Offer advice/guidance on technical matters related to failure analysis
  • Initiate corrective and preventative actions concerning product and process deficiencies after consultation with management
  • Meet cycle time and quality commitments

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in physics, materials science, optical, electrical or mechanical engineering, chemical engineering
  • Relevant experience in the field of failure analysis. Ideally strong knowledge and experience of wafer processes and solid background in semiconductor materials/device characterization.
  • Good hands-on analytical skills and experience in failure localization methods such as OBIRCH, Emission & Thermal Microscopy, LASER, electron beam based FA techniques and TEM imaging.
  • Experience in some/all the following: sample preparation and cross-sectioning desired (I.e., SEM, FIB, X-Ray, CSAM, Auger, AFM, SIMS).
  • Experience in FA data base management and CAD navigation environments
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-driven personality with exceptional analytical skills, structured work style and ability to understand complex matters quickly
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
