SUMMARY: Crowley is providing a unique opportunity for ambitious and energetic students to gain operational logistics experience! The primary focus will be terminal and stevedoring operations as well as documentation and traffic functions to learn the life cycle of a container as it moves through the supply chain!
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Operations: on the terminal assisting truck drivers and yard operators to expedite gate interchange. Stevedoring: learning the functions of a vessel supervisor to plan and perform the discharge and stowage of a container vessel. There will also be office functions such as inter deparment communication, data entry, coordinating labor and analyzing and implementing data. Under direct supervision, may be responsible for entry-level functions that may involve receiving, sorting and distributing incoming mail; organizing and scheduling appointments; handling customer inquiries and maintain office supplies. Performs other clerical duties that may be needed under the direction of management.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: 0 – 2 years general office work experience.
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Outlook and Excel. May require proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications.
COMPETENCIES: Ability to communicate effective verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills. Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously while meeting assigned deadlines. Ability to perform accurately in a detail oriented environment. Ability to gather, interpret, report and use data and other information concerning assigned activities. Ability to function effectively with or as part of a team. Skill in preparing clear and concise documents, including but not limited to reports, procedures, correspondences and other written materials. Knowledge of applicable computer applications and basic computer functions.
JOB SCOPE: Position impacts multiple business units/segments.
WORKING CONDITIONS: E nvironments include inside an office and outside in conditions of high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to work long hours, including weekends.
FLSA Status: The position is Non-Exempt. May require the ability to work overtime to meet required deadlines. Must comply with all work rules, including those that pertain to safety and health.
