Brief Description Of The Division

The Research and Knowledge Management Service, recently established with in the Analysis, Planning, and Performance Division, and is dedicated to strategically managing WFP’s data, knowledge, and evidence. By aligning activities with WFP’s strategic goals, this service will produce actionable insights that drive evidence-based decision-making and policy development. It focuses on streamlining processes, enhancing quality assurance, fostering innovation, and strengthening data integrity. The service aims to digitalise WFP’s vast operational and institutional knowledge, leveraging AI for efficient data management, and ensuring robust standards for research and beneficiary identity processes. Through strategic partnerships and collaborative initiatives, it will position WFP as a leading authority in food security and humanitarian response, ensuring that resources are directed where they are most needed.

The Thematic and Operational Analysis Unit, where the position will be located, is dedicated to conducting innovative research to address contemporary challenges within the APP domain. This unit focuses on supporting quality thematic research, through establishing research standards, coordinating WFP’s research agenda, and working closely with knowledge management to ensure research assets are easily accessible and used. The unit will drive impactful change by fostering a collaborative environment that bridges the gap between theory and practice. By engaging with recognised academic partners, government counterparts, and appropriate consortiums, the unit will contribute to the global understanding of specific thematic and ensure that at least 30% of its research is academically peer-reviewed and published in relevant journals.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • In close collaboration with other units, facilitate the process of consolidating WFP’s long-term agreements (LTA) for research services.
  • Support engagement with academic institutions and think tanks for research reservices. Communication with universities regarding partnership opportunities.
  • Communication and socialisation of WFP’s single LTA for research services throughout WFP.
  • Prepare a directory of WFP LTA partners.

University Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated (within 6 months from the application date) from graduate programme in International Relations, Economics, or related field and have attended university in the last 12 months.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
  • Problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work successfully as part of a multicultural team.
  • Good knowledge of Office 365 tools and Microsoft Teams is a plus.

WORKING LANGUAGES

Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C).

SUPERVISION

The intern will work directly with and report to the Head of the Operational and Thematic Analysis Unit.
