Internship Program Overview:

The FactSet MBA Strategic Finance Internship Program is a 9-week summer internship targeting high potential full-time MBA students in between their first and second year of study. The program will provide firsthand exposure to FactSet’s business and culture, while affording the opportunity for meaningful interaction with senior leaders both inside and outside of finance.

The program is a critical feeder into FactSet’s Finance Development Rotational Program (FDRP), which includes mentorship, senior leader exposure and rotations across the Finance organization aimed to developing the next generation of strong leaders for the future.

Possible placement during the summer internship include:

  • Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Investor Relations
  • Corporate Development and M&A
  • Treasury

Interns will be embedded into the Finance organization and assignments over the summer will be impactful and require collaboration and ownership. Projects and team assignments will be based upon candidate’s technical abilities and interest, as well as the team’s need at the time. Successful interns will gain a foundation of the functional and organizational skills needed to contribute to a well-rounded career in Finance.

Example FP&A and Treasury activities and projects:

  • Accountability/Activities
  • Perform data mining and alignment of the firm type taxonomy, and present your findings to the FP&A team at the end of your internship
  • Network within the FP&A organization to learn about our function and build valuable connections and friendships
  • Meet members of the executive and senior management team by joining the online speaker series
  • Participate in social and networking opportunities for interns across FactSet this summer
  • Participate in a community service event (remotely)
  • Impact/End Result/Project Expected
  • Review current firm type taxonomy for FactSet clients (5,688 clients as of February 29, 2020), recommend enhancements and align with key stakeholders
  • Perform data mining on existing FactSet client taxonomy, benchmark with FactSet and external sources, and consider updates.
  • In parallel, conduct calls with key stakeholders and experts to gather insights and align on potential changes
  • Stakeholders include FP&A, sales operations, and Strategic Business Units (SBU) – align working group and develop a consensus for our enhancements
  • In a dynamic environment, be flexible and adapt as needed as leadership may provide feedback that adjusts the scope and timelines during project

Example Investor Relations activities:

  • Accountability/Activities
  • Assist in driving the earnings process across the organization, including creating materials to support earning calls, analyst meetings, and shareholder engagement
  • Assist in developing and executing repeatable business, operational and financial processes to further IR engagement
  • Execute ad-hoc financial/quantitative analysis and various reporting requests in support of finance initiatives
  • Creation and management of investor relations communications (i.e., press releases, IR site) and presentations
  • Conduct market research, trend analysis, monthly and quarterly investor reporting and prospecting and maintain IR databases
  • Impact/End Result/Project Expected
  • Creation of quarterly earnings materials, including script, Q&A, and quarterly reporting
  • IR best practices and procedures
  • Modeling and input for finance related initiatives
  • Analyst and shareholder engagement; expansion of shareholder base and coverage

Example Corporate Development and M&A activities and projects:

  • Accountability/Activities
  • Conduct research, synthesize findings, and propose recommendations to shape FactSet’s inorganic strategy and roadmap
  • Develop perspectives on the relative strengths, weaknesses, and implications of potential M&A opportunities
  • Formulate build/buy/partner/invest analyses and target selection criteria
  • Define the acquisition hypothesis and business case to ultimately drive strategic decisions
  • Facilitate the strategic evaluation, financial analysis, and due diligence of potential opportunities
  • Assist in post-acquisition program management activities coordinating across multiple cross-functional teams
  • Impact/End Result/Project Expected
  • Recommendations to shape FactSet’s inorganic strategy and roadmap
  • Drive strategic decisions on M&A
  • Support evaluation and execution of potential opportunities
  • Maintain best-in-class toolkits and playbooks for M&A
  • Successful post-acquisition execution of integration plans

Required Skills:

  • MBA candidate with experience or desire to work in financial and/or fintech industry
  • Preferred work experience of at least 2 to 4 years
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to influence and communicate effectively across all levels of an organization
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate analytical findings into actionable solutions and processes
  • Natural curiosity and desire to rapidly grow in an ever-changing environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, collaborative approach, and a proven ability to work in teams
  • The ability to independently analyze large, complex data sets, identify and address issues in the underlying data, and recommend enhancements.
  • Proven project management experience to successfully define, manage and complete required steps for project within short timeframe
